21 November 2009

On a cold and very wey November morning volunteers from Kidsgrove's Winterguard braved the weather and attended a car boot sale in Stoke on Trent. The efforts were definately worth it as they raised £214.00 to help towards the cost of the 2010 Winterguard season. Well done guys!

Setting up of a new Fundraising & Social Team

As part of the running of the corps it is imperative to raise much needed funds to support the work of the staff and members. To support this we have formalised a fundraising and social events team headed up by Pete Lippiatt and supported by Susie Haw. For this team to succeed it needs additional volunteers so if anyone is interested in getting involved or has ideas on what we could do please contact either Pete or Susie.

Chinese Buffet 21st February 2009

On the night of the Stoke WG Show resident chef Pete took to the kitchen again to provide a Chinese Buffet. With more people than perhaps anticipated the event soon got off to a flying start with BBQ ribs or Spring Rolls. This was shortly followed by a selection of Chinese main courses all expertly served by members of the Winterguard.

Special thanks to all those who bought items in the auction with a special mention for Schnitzel who now has a new and loving home! This new format proved to be a very successful in combining social and fundraising together raising £422 pounds on the night adding a matched donation from Alliance & Leicester of £250 – meaning a grand total of £672!!

As the guard were rehearsing ready for the 09 WG season the final preparations were being put into place for the first annual RED, WHITE & BLACK Christmas Meal. The room was set up with help from Adam Lowton, Rob Swindells & Micky Robinson. After a full days rehearsal the guard arrived to take on the roles of food servers for the evening and the 50 guests arrived for a 4 course meal prepared by new chef Pete and his kitchen staff made up of WG staff and members – special mention to Vic for the soup and Sam aka Gravy Girl! With activities to keep the guests amused throughout the service and a raffle and roll a coin competition the night was a real success. After all costs were taken into account the night raised a fantastic £240 added on to this a matched donation from Alliance & Leicester of £250 and a matched donation of £500 from RBS the grand total for the night was just short of £1000!!

Car Boot Snooze

Very early Saturday morning saw the growing group of car boot junkies set up our stalls at an old pottery factory for what we hoped would be a busy indoor car boot sale.It turned out to be a very slow, poorly attended indoor table top sale!We barely made enough to cover the cost of the stalls but thankfully with a donation from Alliance & Leicester of £150 – it wasn’t all wasted effort.

Car Boot Crazy

Ona cold, wet, dark and very early morning in Manchester the plucky seven started what would be car boot crazyness! After a slow start trade picked up and a few of the more refined items started to sell for a few pounds but most people only wanted to pay pence! With a surge of promotions on books and jigsaws (special thanks to Reg for supplying so many jigsaws for us to sell) we were nearing the end of the sale. With a bag full of coins and notes the final total came to £112 plus a matched donation from Alliance & Leicester of £112 – meaning a grand total of £224.
