USA Tour 2012

In 2010 Kidsgrove Scouts toured the USA as part of the hundred year celebrations of the organisation. It was an unbelievable experience for everyone involved and resulted in the corps placing sixth at the World Championship Finals and becoming the DCA International Champions. The success on the field was wonderful, but the life experiences and wonderful moments shared by everyone were priceless.

Below are the outlined provisional plans for the 2012 tour and details on how to reserve your spot or you can download the information to your computer.

Venue

The 2012 DCA World Championship Finals will take place at the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, Maryland.

Annapolis is only 35 miles away from the capital of the USA, Washington DC. The provisional plan is for the corps to base itself in Washington DC for week one of the tour and then to move into Annapolis for the second week. During the second week there are many plans to share wonderful experiences with the DCA community similar to how we did in Rochester in 2010.

Corps numbers and staff

As in 2010 we will seek the services of very experienced USA staff members, some staff members have already confirmed, others are in the pipeline. It’s expected that the lineup for 2012 will be a very special one.

Interest in the 2012 tour has already been considerable; we are hoping to march the maximum DCA corps size of 128 members. The provisional break down of this is:

  • 68 Horns (21 Trumpets, 15 mels, 14 baritones, 6 Euphs, 12 Tubas)
  • 18 Drums (9 snares, 4 tenors, 5 bass drums)
  • 12 Frontline
  • 28 Guard
  • 2 Drum Majors.

The above numbers can be flexible depending on interest. 2011 members are guaranteed a spot and there are a number of 2010/2009 members who have indicated their intentions to march. We may very well find ourselves in a situation where the corps is full as we start 2012 rehearsals at the back end of 2011.

Provisional USA tour schedule

The tour will once again be a balance between the drum corps experience, sight-seeing and chill out time. View and download the provisional schedule.

Cost of the tour

The cost of the 2010 tour was £725 per person. Family, friends and supporters were charged exactly the same price and children under 12 were only asked to pay the cost of their air flight. We envisage that the 2012 tour will be at a very similar price.

A precise cost will be given in a few months when flight costs are released along with hotel deals and we have more accurate predictions of exchange rates. The initial deposit will be £200, which can be paid from this moment onwards.

2012 show

We are already making detailed plans for the 2012 production, more details to follow in time.

Accommodation

For the whole of the tour the accommodation will be hotels for every night. It is likely that we will stay in one hotel in Washington DC for the first week and a hotel in Annapolis for the second week. It is our aim to have top quality hotels at all times with swimming pools and top class facilities.

The tour

As more specific detailed plans of the tour are finalised and worked out they will be released via the corps websites. There are fantastic plans been worked on to make it an unbelievable experience for all who participate. The DCA community suits our organisation perfectly and once again I am sure they will welcome us with open arms and very loud receptions.
