About Us

The Kidsgrove Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps is a not for profit musical education activity.  The organisation currently has a membership in excess of 150 marching members with an additional 30 volunteers who give their time freely to help train the members in a variety of musical and choreography skills.  We have four units, the Senior Corps, the Junior Corps the Junior Winterguard and the Senior Winterguard.

We aim to promote positive self regard, socially responsible values and leadership skills within our members.  This is achieved through an annual programme of performances, rehearsals, competitions and participation in community activities.  The members learn to work together towards well-defined, ambitious goals, with music education and the performing arts as a medium.  The organisation encourages its members to address every challenge with creativity and resolve, whilst stressing the importance of hard work, personal responsibility and mutual respect as the formula for success.

The Corps has a long and proud history (originally starting as a Scout Band in 1910) and has increasingly developed an innovative approach to its performances.  The corps ethos is based around entertainment and education with the dual objectives of educating and stretching the capabilities of the performers whilst providing a crowd-pleasing entertaining marching musical show.  In achieving these objectives, the corps provides the members involved with various life skills including self-discipline, teamwork and continual personal development.

In 2010 the corps, and the Scout Group celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the organisation with a series of parades, celebration evenings and events. As part of the celebrations, the Senior Corps travelled to Rochester in New York to compete in the 2010 Drum Corps Associates World Championships, where they finished sixth out of eleven and were crowned International World Champions.
