My journey from brass to flag by Amy Harris - 9 January 2010

I’ve been with Kidsgrove for a few years marching juniors and a year with seniors playing baritone. This year, as well is being on the horn line with the seniors, I decided to do winterguard with the juniors.

To be honest I thought just spinning a flag would be quite easy, until I actually tried it out for the first time and realised there was actually a proper way of doing it! It was quite hard to start with and I wasn’t very good at it! But now I have been doing it for a while I have got to grips with it all and am really enjoying it! We have our first show coming up soon, I’m so excited, I can’t wait to perform our first show. We are all really enjoying it and I am glad I decided to do it.

I think the theme of the show is really good, none of us could agree on what style of music to have so we decided on a juke box which works really well! I love guard and I will probably be carrying on with it for a while, but just in the winter, I’m sticking with brass in the summer!

I can’t wait to perform my first show at winterguard!
